Diakosmos Dance Academy Open Day and Open Week February 2016
The studio was full of colour, laughter and balloons for Open Day this year. The studio looked bright and cheerful when the students arrived for their dance classes Saturday morning. It was unanimous that students wanted it to be Open Day every day of the year.
Saturday the 20th February was business as usual during the morning dance sessions. For our guests and parents we had lots happening in our foyer for people to enjoy. At lunch time parents, friends, students enjoyed refreshments and then we all headed into Studio 1 for the main event The Open Day Student Performance. A special mention and thanks to our guest artists Kirsty and Rod Greig very experienced musicians who opened the show. A great way to start the year sharing music and dance with family and friends.
Our enthusiastic and talented students supported by our dedicated teachers Nicola Morsley, Julia Mitrevski, Megan O’Kane, Laura Fyffe and myself presented an excellent performance. Dance from the heart! Is what we always encourage and it is such a joy to watch in action. Our audience was warm and attentive. The Open Day Performance was a great success and lots of fun!
We did not stop there, Open week started on Monday 22nd February and students and their guests were invited to trial as many classes as they wanted. On the final day Saturday the 27th February our closing ceremony was celebrated by our Dance Art from the heart! Project created and organised by Loretta Davis. Our foyer was set up with art materials, kindly donated by Loretta Davis. Students under the leadership of our assistant teacher, Laura Fyffe helped paint our Mural and decorate their own star. Diakosmos would like to thank Ms Davis for her wonderful gifts to our students and Julia Mitrevski one of our amazing staff who worked alongside Loretta. Students are still decorating stars so the Mural will continue to grow and sparkle.
Open week is a special time as it is an opportunity for students and their families to come together and to celebrate the positive and fun things about dancing and being part of a performing arts community. The focus is on the special relationships and friendships that can manifest from being part of a creative environment. It provides a space for the students to show family and friends what they learn in dance class and the many benefits they gain as individuals and the importance of team work. It is a great opportunity for guests to visit the school and be part of the celebrations and experience the joys of dance.
Diakosmos Dance Academy Open Day and week started with excitement, laughter and lots of dancing and ended with the same positive spirit that will continue into 2016. We are all looking forward to a wonderful year of dance. Our next special event that we host will be our student choreography competition. We welcome our current as well as new students to join us!
