What is the class content?

 Diakosomos Dance Academy is a fully equipped dance studio located in Thornbury, Melbourne that teaches ballet in Cecchetti method. The Cecchetti ballet method is an internationally recognised and widely used technique that was devised by the Italian ballet master and pedagogue Enrico Cecchetti (1850–1928). The classes are designed to give students a strong basic ballet technique with a gradual building of skills and technique as they progress through the grades. 

Diakosmos students are encouraged to participate in examinations to give them a qualification to pursue a career in dancing. Students may also participate in classes for fun and enjoyment.


In this technique, students will:


  • Learn technique and skills gradually

  • Develop strong foundations in their technique



Students are encouraged to participate in a range of  Cecchetti programs as seen below:


  • Convention

  • Grade examinations

  • Grade assessments

  • Scholarship auditions.

  • Cecchetti events


Who is the class for?

Our Cecchetti ballet classes are specifically designed for:


  • Primary – five years (no exams or assessments)

  • Grade 1 – seven years

  • Grade 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6.

  • Intermediate timetable

  • Students may attend to select classes to develop technique

  • Students may elect to participate in an ungraded assessments and gain feedback.

  • Students may elect to participate in exams

  • Like to try something new

  • Both male and female students

  • Students who enjoy performing

  • Those who want to participate in dance competitions - individual or troupe sections.


What are the requirements?
  • Students who would like to participate in exams or assessments are required to enrol in a minimum of two hours per week of Cecchetti Ballet classes

  • Students must wear the Cecchetti regulation uniform to participate in classes and assessments.

  • Additional fees apply: entrance fees for all Cecchetti based programs and if the student wish to attend the convention

  • Students may wish to attend private lessons to prepare for the exams and improve technique

  • Opportunities for the students to participate in special Cecchetti events and classes

Diakosmos Dance Academy is located at 4 Newcastle Street, Thornbury, Melbourne, VIC 3071.

We are near public transport; Bus – Victoria Road, Thornbury-only a short walk. Thornbury Train Station and High Street Trams – only a 20 minute walk to the studio.
